The MCP Ecosystem

MCP reached 97 million monthly SDK downloads and 5,800+ community-built servers by early 2026.

Every major AI provider now supports the protocol. Understanding where Zephex fits helps you decide when to use a hosted proxy and when to run a community server yourself.

COMMUNITY SERVERS VS HOSTED SERVERS

Community / self-hosted servers

Open-source servers you run locally such as PostgreSQL MCP, GitHub MCP, Slack MCP, or Playwright MCP. They offer flexibility, but you manage installation, updates, and local reliability.

Hosted / cloud servers

Servers that run remotely and are accessed over HTTPS with API key auth. Zephex is this category: purpose-built for code analysis and AI-assisted development workflows.

WHAT MAKES ZEPHEX DIFFERENT
  • One endpoint, same behavior, across every machine and editor.
  • No package updates or local server processes to maintain.
  • Usage tracking, API key management, and scoped access in one dashboard.
  • Purpose-built tools for code reading, package intelligence, security checks, and reasoning state.
WHEN TO USE COMMUNITY SERVERS

Zephex and community MCP servers are not mutually exclusive. Common combinations include:

  • Zephex for code analysis plus GitHub MCP for PR and issue management.
  • Zephex for code reading plus PostgreSQL MCP for direct database queries.
  • Zephex for project context plus Slack MCP for team communication context.
THE ZEPHEX TOOL SET

Zephex focuses on the code-analysis cluster: project orientation, precise code reads, fast search, architecture tracing, package checks, header auditing, URL inspection, scoped task planning, and structured reasoning.

The protocol itself is now governed by the Agentic AI Foundation under the Linux Foundation, so hosted and self-hosted servers remain interoperable as long as they follow the same MCP standard.
